Vastu Shastra places great importance to the placement and direction of entrance of the main door. The main door is an index of the quality of vibrations of the house. It is the first thing that comes into notice when you enter the house. This is also the place where positive energies enter the home. The entrance door should be positioned in a way where it can attract the most beneficial energy.
Following are some tips which can help you position your main entrance door according to Vastu Shastra so that it is not just an entrance to your abode but also brings in positive energy and abundance.
Direction: The most important thing for the placement of the main door is the direction.
Northeast is the best direction for the placement of the main door followed by the southeast direction. Main door in the northeast direction is considered auspicious because it allows the sunlight and fresh air of the morning to enter the house from the east direction.
Avoid placing the door towards the corner of the walls.
A door positioned in the south shouldn’t be placed in the center of the building. Avoid placing the door in the southwest direction since the hot infra-red rays of the afternoon sunlight are projected, maximum towards this direction. If you have a door in the west, ensure that you have a parallel door in the east.
The height of the main door should be at least twice its width. It should be attractive, solid and massive. Always use very good quality wood for main entrance.
In case the door does not meet these criteria, give an artful decoration along the margin around the main frame to make it stand out and speak for itself as most prominent.
Make sure that main door is noise free while opening or closing. It should open inside and clockwise.
The main door should have a threshold to avoid wealth loss.
Decorate: Use of Toran on main doors is very auspicious. It wards off negative energy and creates attraction for wealth to enter in your home.
Make sure to have a beautiful nameplate on entrance of a home; this attracts prosperity, wealth and happiness.
For those who believe in Hindu religion, it is good to decorate a house’s entrance with pictures or statues of ‘Lakshmi’, ‘Ganesha’ or ‘Kuber’ and auspicious signs such as ‘OM’ or the ‘Swastika’ or any religious sign as per your faith to ward off bad luck and usher in protection and good energy.
Some Things to Avoid
1. Avoid slanting, sliding or circular opening entrances and self-closing doors.
2. Do not have a wall in front of the entrance door. Avoid having main door facing directly to another home’s main entrance.
3. There should be no obstructions in front of Main Door such as rails, staircase, big trees or pole.
4. Entrance of house should not face temple or any religious place.
5. Avoid any shadows on main door especially shadows of other buildings, plants etc.
6. Avoid arched doors and windows as they distort the energy flow.
